Men's Golf in Fifth After Day One of Districts

WATERLOO — The Iowa Central men's golf team sits in fifth here after the opening round of the North Central District Championship.

Kirkwood is first after rounds of 289-297 for a 586, which is two shots ahead of Des Moines Area. Northeast and Southeast are tied with 594s followed by the 595 put together by the Tritons.

The Top-3 teams and three best individuals from non-qualifying teams advance to the NJCAA Championships.

Iowa Central opened with a 300, cutting five shots off during the second round.

Nico Booyens put together a 3-under opening round and is second overall at 1-under. Booyens had five birdies including three in a row on the back to begin his day.

Des Moines Area's Drew Teeter had an even-par opening round before going 3-under to hold the lead.

Bailey Doe is tied for seventh overall and Kai Hielckert is tied for 19th. Ben Christy sits in a tie for 40th and Colby Ramsdale is tied for 44th overall.

The final round is set for Tuesday at Gate Parks Golf Course.
