Whenever Adam Berte hears the Travis Tritt classic "It's A Great Day To Be Alive" hit the speakers, he can't help but flashback to his days at Iowa Central.

Berte was a member of the Triton baseball team for two seasons following a standout career at Twin River Valley. Now, he is in his fourth season as head coach of the Williamsburg softball team, which will play Wednesday at Rogers Park in the Class 3A state semifinals against three-time defending champion Davenport Assumption.

For Berte, carrying on the tradition developed at Iowa Central of listening to the Tritt song following wins was one he wanted for his new team.

"Anytime I hear that song, even to this day, I can't help but remember all the good times I had at Iowa Central," Berte said. "So at Williamsburg we have a victory song with our team this season and I am hopeful that years from now, they will have the same feelings I do whenever they hear it."

As a sophomore for the Tritons in 2006, Berte stole nine bases and hit .324 with eight RBI, a double, a triple and 23 hits in all. 

"It's been fun to be back in Fort Dodge," Berte said. "I had two great years here and really feel like I learned how to win (with Iowa Central). 

Berte, who was an assistant with the Williamsburg baseball team before taking over the softball program, is 99-51, meaning victory No. 100 would mean a spot in the 3A state finals on Friday night.
