Bats come alive in nightcap for Tritons

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - The Iowa Central baseball team showed plenty of resolve, coming back from a loss earlier in the day here Saturday to trounce Glen Oaks, 12-3.

The 20th-ranked Tritons started the split doubleheader off with an 8-2 setback to Rich Mountain.

In the nightcap from the former home of the NJCAA World Series, Jack Sievers, Derek Kay and Jeff Lamp combined for six RBI and six hits. Sievers went 3-for-5 with a run scored while Kay was 2-for-3 with two runs, a triple and a stolen base.

Nate Mortimer, Max Holy and Lamp had a double each with Holy, Ryan Wickman and Jalen Martinez recording a steal each. 

"We started off slow in the morning, but the offense, pitching and hitting was good the second game," Sievers said. "I just saw the ball well and stuck to what I do best."

Iowa Central struck early in support of John Klein, plating six runs in the first, two more in the second and one in the third. Klein went five innings, striking out eight with four hits allowed. 

Ben DeTaeye had two strikeouts in an inning of work on the mound. 

In the loss to Rich Mountain, Noah Susong and Sievers each went deep for solo home runs. Sievers was 2-for-2. 

Iowa Central concludes its trip with a solo contest against Triton College at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
