Dominating pitching performances lead Tritons

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Devon Schewe was named the NJCAA Div. II Pitcher of the Week recently. On Saturday, Schewe showed why he might be in the running to earn it once again.

Unless his teammate grabs the honor.

Schewe went the distance against Bryant & Stratton at Lenz Field in the opener, striking out 13 with two walks allowed as the Tritons claimed a 5-0 victory. He allowed just two hits.

In the nightcap, John Klein matched Schewe, throwing seven innings of one-hit ball with 12 strikeouts and four walks as the Tritons finished the sweep, 1-0.

"I was commanding my fastball and curve well," Klein said. "I was confident in getting them over the plate. I felt 100 percent from first pitch to the last one on the mound."

Ryan Wickman collected four hits including three doubles on the day while scoring a run. Max Holy had two hits, drove in a run and scored while Jack Sievers plated the winning run in the nightcap.

Gavin Baker and Devin Hurdle each had two hits in the first game with an RBI. Sievers and Ben Gallaher also drove in runs. Holy and Wickman had two hits in the second contest with Ben DeTaeye scoring the lone run.

Iowa Central takes on Bryant & Stratton in another doubleheader here Sunday beginning at noon.
