Tritons split with Bears on road

BOONE - The Iowa Central baseball team finished off a weekend series vs. Des Moines Area with a split here Sunday.

The Tritons claimed the opener, 5-1, with the Bears bouncing back for a 9-8 victory.

Easton Dermody earned the victory on the mound, striking out seven with just two hits allowed over five-plus innings. Brock Johnson was 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run while Devin Hurdle and Derek Kay each had two hits including a double.

Max Holy and Ben Gallaher each drove in a run in the win as Johnson and Matthew Wilkinson combined to strike out three.

In the nightcap, Ryan Wickman collected three hits, drove in two runs and had two steals, Hurdle had two hits including a triple, Nathin Mortimer had two doubles and Jack Sievers drove in two.

Kai Reum struck out three in relief.

Iowa Central hosts Northeast on Wednesday at Ed Barbour Field.
