Iowa Central swept by Iowa Western

The Iowa Central baseball team was swept by Iowa Western here Saturday at Ed Barbour Field.

Scores were 3-0 and 12-2.

John Klein gave the No. 14 Tritons a strong performance in the opener, striking out eight over seven innings. Klein allowed just five hits and walked four on the day.

Max Holy and Derek Kay were the lone batters to record a hit for Iowa Central, as Peyton Zabel struck out six over seven innings for the seventh-ranked Reivers.

Kyle Huckstorf had a home run in the third and Iowa Western added two more runs in the fifth.

Holy had an RBI-double and Brock Johnson drove him in during the first inning of the nightcap, but a 2-1 Triton lead would soon dissolve as the Reivers plated a run in the third, two in the fourth and three more in the fifth to gain control.

Johnson had two hits and reached on a walk with Ryan Wickman also recording a base hit.

Huckstorf was 2-for-5 with two homers and four RBI to lead Iowa Western.

These two teams will play another doubleheader here on Sunday.
