Iowa Central sweeps past Bryant & Stratton

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Weather forced the Iowa Central baseball team to the road this past weekend.

The Tritons were scheduled to host Bryant & Stratton in their home opener on Saturday and Sunday. Instead, they swept the Bobcats here in four games.

Scores were 12-2, 12-2, 8-2 and 4-0 in favor of Iowa Central (11-4 overall).

Brett Sears and Easton Dermody both had complete game efforts on the mound on Saturday with nine strikeouts and just three hits allowed each. Jalen Martinez, Jacob Barton and Isaac Becker all hit a home run with Martinez driving in four in the opener and Becker three in the nightcap.

Barton and Brock Johnson each finished with two hits and two RBI. 

In the opener on Sunday, Kai Reum and Matthew Wilkinson combined for 12 strikeouts over five-plus innings while Martinez and Becker each delivered home runs. 

Martinez, Becker and Johnson, who was 4-for-4 with a stolen base, all drove in two runs. Martinez also scored twice. 

Andrew Boeser tossed a complete-game five-hitter in the final contest, striking out 10 batters. Johnson and Martinez each collected two hits and drove in a run.

Iowa Central heads to Moraine Valley for a four-game weekend series beginning Saturday.
