Iowa Central remains hot, plates 15

The 18th-ranked Iowa Central baseball team remained on fire, picking up a 15-5 victory in seven innings over Ellsworth here Saturday afternoon at Ed Barbour Field.

Jalen Martinez drove in three runs and Evan Borst two in support of Brett Sears, who improved to 6-0 on the year.

Sears, a Nebraska commit, struck out 12 batters without a walk, scattering eight hits with three earned runs. The Tritons (19-4 overall) have now won 13 in a row.

"We really got after it at the plate," Iowa Central head coach Eric Stein said. "It was a good weekend and a great way to begin our home season."

Borst, Martinez and Brock Johnson each had two hits. Max Holy, Trey Morris, Caleb Corbin, Nick Baker and Jacob Barton drove in a run each with Holy stealing two bases and Morris one.

The Tritons provided Sears with four quick runs in the first before Ellsworth made it 4-2. Iowa Central responded with a seven-spot in the bottom of the second to take command.

"We did a great job of hitting with runners on and moving them around," Stein said. "Brett was dominant once again on the mound and our defense played well."

Iowa Central begins ICCAC play on Wednesday in Mason City against North Iowa. First-pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Roosevelt Field.
