No. 12 Iowa Central keeps on winning

The 12th-ranked Iowa Central baseball team had no trouble with Iowa Lakes here Tuesday afternoon at Ed Barbour Field.

The Tritons won by scores of 15-5 and 12-1 in an ICCAC doubleheader moved up a day due to expected weather on Wednesday.

Freshman Tyler Olson twirled a gem in the opener, pitching all six innings with six strikeouts and just one walk. Only one of the four earned runs was allowed by Olson.

Iowa Central (23-5 overall, 4-1 in league) gave him plenty of run support early and often, scoring four times in the first to erase a 2-0 deficit. They added two in the second, two in the third and four more in the fourth.

Evan Borst had a triple and drove in two runs, scoring twice more, while Nick Baker was 3-for-3 with five RBI. Isaac Becker had three hits and drove in two runs, with Jalen Martinez and Caleb Corbin each scoring three times.

"When you can give your pitcher an early lead, it definitely takes the nerves away," Iowa Central head coach Eric Stein said. "Tyler had another really strong performance on a really tough day to pitch."

In the second game, Andrew Boeser pitched four innings of two-hit ball, striking out three, while Kole Bradley, James Jefferson and Ryan Linkletter racked up five strikeouts over the final three frames.

Once more, the Tritons struck early, scoring one in the first, four in the second and five in the third. Becker had a triple and recorded three more hits with two RBI.

Teige Lethert drove in two and scored twice, while Cael Boyd and Martinez each had an RBI.

"These mid-week games our tough, and moving it up a day, we had to come out ready to go," Stein said. "I thought we did that and played pretty good baseball."

Iowa Central returns to action on Saturday and Sunday in Iowa Falls against Ellsworth.
