Tritons make quick work of Ellsworth

The 12th-ranked Iowa Central baseball team started April off just like they finished March.

Behind 14-4 and 15-2 wins here Saturday against Ellsworth, the Tritons stretched their current win streak to five.

Games were shifted from Iowa Falls to Ed Barbour Field due to weather. The teams will conclude their three-game set back here on Sunday at noon.

Brett Sears remained unbeaten on the season, striking out seven over five innings of work in the opener. Jalen Martinez hit a home run and Nick Baker drove in three on two hits.

The Tritons (25-5 overall, 6-1 in ICCAC) scored in all five innings, including a six-spot in the fifth to end the contest early.

Martinez and Evan Borst each drove in two, while Max Holy, Trey Morris, Caleb Corbin, Isaac Becker and Cael Boyd had an RBI each. Brock Johnson scored three times with two doubles, while Morris and Martinez crossed home twice.

"I wouldn't say we were as sharp as we can be," Iowa Central head coach Eric Stein said. "But when you can claim a sweep in this conference, you'll take it."

John Klein struck out 11 in the second game, allowing just four hits over six innings. Borst hit two homers and drove in four, scoring three times.

Morris was 3-for-3 with five RBI, while Corbin was 3-for-5 and drove in five. Johnson scored four times, Holy three and Boyd twice.

The win was a special one for Stein, as it marked his 100th since taking over the Iowa Central program.
