Tritons take weekend series from DMACC

Jalen Martinez drove in four runs, Matthew Wilkinson had six strikeouts and the 10th-ranked Iowa Central baseball team claimed a weekend series over Des Moines Area here Sunday at Ed Barbour Field, 17-7.

Martinez was 2-for-5 with a double, Evan Borst was 2-for-2 with two RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases, and Cael Boyd scored four times, stealing two bases.

The Tritons (27-7 overall, 8-3 in ICCAC) won two of three from the Bears and are now 16-3 at home this season.

"After splitting on Saturday, it was great to come out and take care of business on Sunday," Iowa Central head coach Eric Stein said. "We had good production throughout the lineup and Wilkinson came on and really pitched well.

"We've just got to keep working hard to get better."

DMACC went up 1-0 to begin the game before the Tritons plated two runs in the bottom of the first and five more in the second to take control. The Bears did answer back with four in the third to make it 7-6 before Iowa Central scored three in the fifth and five more in the sixth.

Wilkinson allowed just two hits and no earned runs over four-plus innings of work on the mound.

Brock Johnson and Nick Baker each drove in two runs, Teige Lethert scored three times and Max Holy twice. Boyd also had two hits and drove in a run, while Trey Morris and Caleb Corbin each had an RBI.

Corbin also had two hits and scored twice.

Iowa Central will play its next six games on the road starting with traveling to Estherville to meet Iowa Lakes on Monday. The Tritons are at Northeast Wednesday and Iowa Western Friday and Saturday.
