Baseball Goes 2-1 to Take Series With Kirkwood

CEDAR RAPIDS —  Iowa Central took the three-game series with ninth-ranked Kirkwood here over the weekend.

After falling 4-3 in the opener Saturday, the sixth-ranked Tritons won the final two games.

Cooper Nicholson and Zakary Goodwin had home runs for the Tritons in Saturday's opener.

Iowa Central secured a 17-11 victory in game two, and again downed the Eagles on Sunday, 7-5.

Will Smoot had two home runs and five RBI for the Tritons Saturday evening. Peter Johnson, Troy Berg, Michael Siemer and Harrison Bowman also added home runs. Justin Benjamin had the win at the plate, his second of the season.

In Sunday's game, Josh Hatano and Michael Siemer led with two RBIs each while Harrison Bowman had one. CJ Byrdak (3-0) got the win on the mound and Jake Busson had the save.

Sixth-ranked Iowa Central (33-7 overall) returns home to Harlan Rogers Wednesday for a ranked showdown with No. 1 (NJCAA DI) Iowa Western.
