2020-21 Recap: National titles come back with Tritons

It was a banner-raising season for both the Iowa Central cheer and dance teams.

For the eighth time in program history, the Tritons were crowned national champions in cheer, winning the NCA Intermediate Large Coed Open division title. They scored a 96.5667 in finals.

"This group has been such an incredible inspiration to us," Iowa Central head coach Amanda Murphy said. "They really are great student-athletes who aspire to be great people. They have put in so much work, countless hours of practice and sacrifice to get to this point.

"I couldn't be more proud of them for what they accomplished."

Iowa Central's dance team followed up by winning the Hip Hop division at the NDA Collegiate Dance Championships with a team score of just over 89. They were also third in the Team Performance division.

"This team has had to overcome so many obstacles this year," Iowa Central head coach Cassidy Vermeer said. "We are so incredibly proud of their grit, relentless hard work, dedication to our goals and indescribable talent.

"We couldn't be prouder of our girls."
