For the second consecutive year, the Iowa Central dance team completed a sweep at state.

The Tritons won Jazz, Pom and Hip Hop at the 2021 Iowa State Dance Team Championships, which were held earlier this year. Results were announced during a virtual presentation on Saturday.

This marks the second consecutive time that Iowa Central has swept the three titles. 

Cassiday Vermeer, herself a former Triton dancer, is the head coach. She is assisted by Stephanie Hood. 

"What an unbelievable weekend we had!" Vermeer said. "We were able to gather to watch our State Dance Team Championship Awards Show, and that in and of itself was such a huge blessing! We had a white elephant gift exchange, pot luck, watched awards, and sponsored a family for Christmas!

"We are so grateful to have been given the opportunity to perform live in Wells Fargo Arena! We understand that not every team was given the opportunity to compete this year, and we are so proud to have represented Triton Nation! It feels so incredible to be able to bring those trophies to Iowa Central! Our team, like numerous others, had hit roadblock after roadblock this season! As coaches, we couldn't be prouder of how these dancers have overcome every obstacle in their way! They truly left it all out on that floor and committed to these routines in every way possible!

This marked the third time in program history that Iowa Central has won all three events at one state championship event. 

"As a team, we have so many people to thank! Paul Decoursey, for capturing all of these special moments on camera! ISDTA for putting together an incredible competition, and being incredibly helpful every step of the way! Our incredible hip hop choreographer Cheryl, for an outstanding routine! Our athletic trainer, Heather, for helping us to stay healthy all season! Finally, a huge thank you goes out to our support system- parents, grandparents, guardians, family, alumni, and all of our supporters in Triton Nation! Our season would not have been possible this far if not for all of you!"
