Iowa Central Dance three-peats at state

DES MOINES - The Iowa Central dance team came to Wells Fargo Arena Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Association State Championships looking to continue their run of excellence.

And that is exactly what they did.

The Tritons swept the community college jazz, hip hop and pom divisions for a third consecutive season.

A total of 30 student-athletes comprised the Iowa Central Dance Team at state

Iowa Central bested seven other teams in both the pom and hip hop divisions, and five in the jazz division.

Vermeer is assisted by Stephanie Hood.

"We are just so proud of how our dancers have handled this entire state season and this semester," Vermeer and Hood said. "They have been extremely disciplined, driven and goal-oriented since they moved onto campus in early August. As coaches, we asked them to trust their training and know that we believed in them the whole way.

"I think the thing that sets our girls apart from others competing is that our dancers love the process. They really love the work and are excited to come and improve at practice every day. Our girls are really a family, and sacrifice for one another; they're so selfless.

"At the end of the day, we love bringing home hardware to Triton Nation, but the wins are so much sweeter when you have a family to celebrate with."
