ESports wraps up 2022-2023 Season

Iowa Central ESports sees 2 top 16 finishes nationally

The Iowa Central Esports Team recently wrapped up its 2022-2023 season.

The Rocket League Team of Evan Jurgenson, Ethan Jackson and Dylan Brookes went 6-1 during the regular season, finishing in second place with their round robin group, securing a spot in the playoffs. The Team was seeded ninth in the championship bracket, winning their first game against Northwestern College's Trappers, 3-2. They then played WSU Tech, losing 2-3, finishing the season in the top 16 nationally.

Overwatch 2 team members Gavin Richman, Ethan Jackson, Ethan Recker, Jesus Magdaleno and Blade Kabua went undefeated in the regular season, securing a five seed in the championship bracket of the playoffs. The team won their first round of play 3-0 over SUNY Corning, and round two 3-1 over the Carl Sandburg Chargers, losing in the quarterfinals to Union College 0-3. Making the quarterfinal round with a 9-1 overall record secured the team a Top-8 finish nationally.

The Super Smash Bros Team was made up of Recker, Kabua and Jurgensen. Individually, Recker finished 5-2 and ranked in the Top-50 nationally. He was unable to compete in the championship bracket due to scheduling constraints. Kabua and Jurgensen each finished 2-5 on the season which did not qualify for the championship.
