Tritons denied by Snow

The Iowa Central football team found themselves in a 3-3 tie with Snow here Saturday at the half.

Over the final 30 minutes, though, the second-ranked Badgers imposed their will and took advantage of three Triton turnovers to post a 48-18 victory and remain unbeaten on the season.

For the 10th-ranked Tritons (3-3 overall), it was a second consecutive setback as they fell to 0-3 this year vs. rated teams.

"They bullied us," Iowa Central head coach Jesse Montalto said. "We couldn't do anything right there in the second half. We turned the ball over, we failed to convert a couple key possessions and we were just handled on both sides of the ball."

Byron Jarrett directed a pair of fourth quarter touchdown drives, finishing both off with short runs to the end zone himself. Jarrett threw for 109 yards with Desna Washington catching three passes for 101 yards.

As a team, the Tritons were held to just 46 yards rushing against a vaunted Snow (7-0) unit. Jadon Washington ran for 57 yards, but the Badgers had seven sacks as a team led by two from Shad Pulsipher.

Daylen Boddie had 36 yards of total offense on four touches with Madison Ridgeway, Jordan Kumm, Jadon Washington, Clayton Ollendieck and Savion Johnson all catching a pass. Brady Pope threw for 96 yards and Collin Swygman made a 29-yard field goal.

For Snow, Mekhi Kimble had 99 yards rushing, Seth Kaelin 54 and Garrison Beach threw for 132 yards.

"We had some chances there in the first half to take advantage and we didn't convert," Montalto said. "Our defense kept us in the game again; we just didn't do enough on offense to help them out. Add in the special teams mistakes and turnovers, and you can't beat a team like Snow doing all of that."

Deante Nelson had an interception on defense for Iowa Central, which held the Badgers to just 101 yards of total offense in the first 30 minutes and three points.

Much like they did last week vs. Ellsworth, Snow got rolling in the third quarter, scoring on four drives. They returned the opening half kickoff back, recovered a fumble in the end zone, made another field goal and saw Kimble dart in for a score.

Iowa Central plays for the final time next Saturday when they host Ellsworth for a second time. The Tritons won the first meeting, 58-6, last month in Iowa Falls.
