Homecoming delight for No. 12 Tritons

Homecoming 2021 was a special one for the Iowa Central football team.

The 12th-ranked Tritons picked up a 42-7 victory here Saturday over Air Force Prep inside Dodger Stadium and in front of a large crown of Iowa Central faithful.

Byron Jarrett threw for four touchdowns and ran for a fifth, Cal Weidemann caught two TD passes and the defense for the Tritons (4-1 overall) settled in against a tricky opponent.

"It was a good win to get," Iowa Central head coach Jesse Montalto said. "We didn't let (last Sunday's loss to Iowa Western) bother us this week. We came out, won the week and got better as a football team.

"And to do in front of so many alumni on Homecoming was really special."

Jarrett led scoring drives in all four quarters, completing 22 of 35 for 201 yards with no interceptions. He also ran for 52 yards.

Daylen Boddie added 77 yards on the ground and Levon Bellemy 54. Jordan Kumm caught six passes for 47 yards and Colton Hoag, Desna Washington and Izaiah Haslett each had a receiving score. Zach Marker came on and threw the TD to Haslett.

Jarrett now has 11 touchdown passes and over 700 yards in the air over the last three games. He has thrown at least two passing TDs in all five games this year.

"We are hot right now and definitely clicking," Jarrett said. "It's so fun and relieving playing with these weapons I have. They make it easy for me to just play. And I can't skip over my offensive line either because they make it all go."

Playing against the triple option attack of Air Force out of the flexbone offense, the Tritons were able to limit the big play. They allowed just 241 yards of total offense.

"We rode the wave in the first," Montalto said. "It's difficult to prepare for a team like that, but we told the kids at halftime they were doing the right things."

Iowa Central has now won seven of its last 10 games played at Dodger Stadium.

The Tritons will become road warriors for the remainder of October with games at Ellsworth, Highland and Iowa Western before returning home on Sunday, November 7 to face Grand View JV.
