Tritons handle Highland, set sights on Iowa Western

HIGHLAND, Kan. - There was no look-ahead for the Iowa Central football team here Saturday.

With a showdown against likely new No. 1 Iowa Western on the horizon, the 10th-ranked Tritons took care of Highland, 41-0.

Byron Jarrett threw for 213 yards with two touchdowns while adding another 121 and two scores on the ground in the win. Zach Marker and Daylen Boddie each had a rushing score with Desna Washington and Boddie hauling in TD passes.

"We were focused all week in practice on Highland," Iowa Central head coach Jesse Montalto said. "We had the goal of coming down here and putting on a show to prove just how good we can be. We know we are still trying to put together a perfect game, but we just continue to get better."

Iowa Central (6-1 overall) allowed just 125 yards of total offense to Highland, including 33 net yards passing thanks to four sacks. Tristin Waugh had two sacks with Dominic McMillian getting one. 

Deante Nelson picked off a pass and Waugh forced a fumble. Waugh had four tackles for loss as the Tritons recorded 12 as a team. 

Washington and Boddie each had 53 yards receiving with Jordan Kumm and Aniik McKenzie catching a pass each. 

Jarrett got Iowa Central on the board in the first quarter with a 7-yard TD run to finish off a five-play, 75-yard drive that took just under two minutes. In the second, Boddie caught an 8-yard TD pass from Jarrett and Washington and Jarrett connected as time expired in the half on a 53-yard score.

The Tritons will now prepare for Iowa Western on Saturday in Council Bluffs.
