Tritons clipped by No. 2 Iowa Western

COUNCIL BLUFFS - Second-ranked Iowa Western escaped with a 20-17 victory over No. 6 Iowa Central here Saturday evening.

Noah Sauberan, who missed a field goal in the fourth quarter, knocked through a 46-yarder with 49 seconds left in the game for the winning points. 

A final attempt for the Tritons to get into field goal range ended with an interception. 

Byron Jarrett punched in a 9-yard score in the fourth to tie it at 17-all, completing a 10-play, 74-yard drive. Jarrett was 23-for-46 passing for 205 yards with a TD to Madison Ridgeway, adding 62 yards on the ground.

Desna Washington caught four passes for 51 yards and Ridgeway finished with four for 46. Cal Weidemann caught five passes for 32 yards and Daylen Boddie ran for 36.

Iowa Central took an early 7-0 lead on a 14-yard TD strike from Jarrett to Ridgeway in the first quarter. That score completed a nine-play, 96-yard drive that took up just over three minutes.

The Reivers would answer back with a 45-yard run to the end zone by Moses Bryant. Bryant also had a 67-yard TD jaunt that gave Iowa Western a 17-7 lead in the third. 

Bryant ran nine times for 120 yards with the two scores, Nate Glantz had 208 yards passing but was picked off three times. 

Colin Swygman connected on a 44-yard field goal for the Tritons, who also caught interceptions from CJ Christian, Noah Epley and Bilhal Kone. Christian had nine tackles with both Kenny Givens and Blake Whaley recording a sack.

Iowa Central returns home next Sunday to host Grand View JV at Dodger Stadium at noon. They finish the regular season on Saturday, November 13 vs. Ellsworth.
