Washington is ICCAC Offensive MVP

Desna Washington became the latest Iowa Central football player to be named the most valuable offensive player, the ICCAC announced recently.

Washington, a three-time all-league honoree, finished the regular season with 49 catches for 812 yards with nine touchdowns. He had TDs in eight of 10 games and went over 100 yards in three.

In terms of his national standing, Washington ranked third in yards, fourth in touchdowns and 11th in receptions.

Zach Marker, Cal Weidemann, Elijah Heatherston and Reese Steele joined Washington on the all-conference offensive team, with Deonte Bryant, Rex Van Wyhe and Jacob Camacho making the defensive squad. Dominic Sisernos was the top long snapper.

Marker led the conference with 20 passing touchdowns and just five interceptions, completing 60 percent of his passes for 1,162 yards. Protecting him up front was Heatherston and Steele, while Weidemann caught 37 passes for 476 yards and 10 touchdowns, which rank tied for second in the nation.

Van Wyhe led the ICCAC in tackles with 73, adding 3.5 sacks, six tackles for loss and three forced fumbles. Bryant had 8.5 sacks and Camacho recorded 50 tackles with two interceptions.

All-region selections from Iowa Central included Marker, Justin Silverstein, Jadon Washington, Weidemann, Washington, George Sims, Jamarien Wheeler, Colton Hoag, Steele, Jack Wilty, Noah Howard, Heatherston, Ashton Travis, Bryant, Cody Smidt, James Williams, Van Wyhe, Demetrios Walker, Noah Epley, LeJuan Miller, Jacob Camacho, Kevontey Fowler, Kolben Miller and Sisneros.

Ty Nissen, a sophomore returning All-American for Iowa Western, was the top punter. Nissen is the son of Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Lance Nissen.
