Dave Mann was named the special teams coordinator upon the arrival of head coach Jesse Montalto at Iowa Central in 2018.  With the change, Mann also switched from coaching safeties to outside linebackers and added coaching kickers.  It’s in this capacity that Mann enters 2020 being his 27th season coaching football and 18th at Iowa Central.

Mann’s first two seasons coaching football were at the high school level before joining Kevin Twait’s staff at Iowa Central in 1996. Mann was the defensive backs coach at Iowa Central for four seasons.

With the desire to pursue coaching football as a full-time career, Mann accepted a graduate assistant position at St. Cloud State University coaching the cornerbacks for two seasons. While at SCSU, Mann earned his Masters Degree in Sports Management.

Mann’s full-time coaching career began the following fall in 2002 as the defensive coordinator at Ellsworth Community College.  A struggling program at the time, during the duration of his five seasons at ECC, Mann’s defense was instrumental in contributing to the first winning season in seven years and sharing a Region XI championship for the first time in 12.

In the spring of 2007, Mann rejoined the Tritons as their defensive coordinator, coaching the secondary and punters for five seasons. In a move to spend more time with his family, Mann relinquished his full-time coaching role and coordinator position following the 2011 season. He transitioned to teaching development math at Iowa Central while remaining on the football staff coaching the safeties and punters. He remained in this role throughout the 2017 season.

Over the years, Mann has been fortunate in the postseason, compiling a 13-2 bowl game record, including 9-0 while serving as a coordinator. In his personal life, he and his wife Julie, a teacher at Fort Dodge Senior High, reside in Fort Dodge and are proud parents of Lauren (28), Hannah (22), Seth (19) and Morgan (13).
