Iowa Central kicks off new year with Kirkwood

The Iowa Central men's basketball team will welcome 13th-ranked Kirkwood to Hodges Fieldhouse Wednesday night.

This marks the first action of 2020 for the Tritons, who are 5-9 overall and 0-1 in the ICCAC.

Last year, the Eagles (11-3, 1-0) posted a pair of victories over Iowa Central, winning 101-94 and 104-90. Kirkwood sank 26 combined 3-pointers in the two league wins.

The Tritons closed out 2019 with a 75-71 victory over the Grand View JV. Andrew Gibb, a former all-stater at St. Edmond, leads the team at almost 18 points per game.

Marquis Henry and D'Monte Gaw average nine per night, with Ayris Abdelnassar adding eight and Javonte Keck seven.

For Kirkwood, they have won six in a row. Luke Appel is the leading scorer, averaging 14 per game. The Eagles have surpassed the 80-point mark in four of their last six.
