When Kemryn Jenkins left his home in Kentucky to attend Iowa Central, there was plenty of change. 

Those life lessons learned both on the basketball court for the Tritons and in the classroom, helped make the transition from Iowa Central to McPherson College that much easier for the sharp-shooting guard.

Jenkins is a junior member of the McPherson basketball team. He is averaging 11.2 points per game as the Bulldogs are currently 12-5 overall and 7-4 in the conference.

"Transitioning from high school to Iowa Central made it easier to transition to McPherson simply because I was already adapted into learning how to manage and handle new environments," Jenkins said. "I was more prepared and ready to step out of my comfort zone."

Jenkins has found his rhythm as of late, scoring 20, 25 and 23 points in three of his last four games. He is shooting 37 percent from the field, 36 percent from the 3-point line and 86 percent at the free throw line on the year. 

"Learning how to play with new teammates and in a new system have been the biggest difficulties at this level," he said. "I'm still trying to fill everything out, but now I'm coming into my own and it's starting to all gel together.

"Our team has progressively made strides throughout the season. We were ranked 11th out of 13 teams in the conference to start the year, but we've all brought in and want to win the league title."

Jenkins finished his two-year career at Iowa Central with 706 points in 59 games, making 23 starts. He knocked down 126 three-pointers playing under the legendary Dennis Pilcher. 

"Coach Pilch and Coach (Chad) Helle taught me that I overlooked being available mentally and physically every day to give my team my all," Jenkins said. "Every person a team is crucial to winning and I could remember my freshman year at Iowa Central the journey making it to the conference championship game.

"We grinded and competed every day, day in and day out to get to that point and it all started as individuals wanting to come in and get better; not only for ourselves, but as a whole."

McPherson returns to action Saturday at Ottawa in league action.
