Tritons can't get on track in ranked showdown

The Iowa Central men couldn't overcome a shooting slump, falling here Wednesday night to Des Moines Area, 95-64.

In a showdown of ranked teams and ICCAC contenders, the Bears raced out to a quick 30-6 lead and continued to build on their advantage.

PJ Ngambi posted 16 points and three assists to lead the Tritons with Javonte Keck adding 11. Jayden Stephens had nine, Jaxon Smith eight and both Jordan Majeed and Cham Deng five.

"We didn't come out ready to play and that was the end result," ICCC head coach Chad Helle said. "DMACC didn't give us any opening and we didn't create much of one for ourselves either. This is just one game and we have to make sure we leave it as one game and move on."

Coming off a tough loss at Southwestern this past weekend, the Tritons battled after the break, cutting the deficit down to 55-41 before DMACC went on another run.

Christian Haffner led six players in double figures for the Bears with 17.

Iowa Central will look to snap its skid this Saturday when they travel to Marshalltown. Tip is set for 3 p.m.
