Iowa Central topped by Lakers

A scary moment during the Iowa Central-Iowa Lakes men's basketball game Wednesday night left all thinking more about a player than the final score.

The Lakers picked up a 100-76 victory inside Hodges Fieldhouse, but concern over their teammate was on their minds.

During the first half, Iowa Lakes freshman Cameron Tolefree hit the court hard after a collision with PJ Ngambi. Tolefree remained down with Iowa Central medical staff quickly tending to him. After several minutes, emergency personnel arrived on the scene to take Tolefree to the local hospital.

"It's just a tough, tough situation for all involved," Iowa Central head coach Chad Helle said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Cameron, the Iowa Lakes team and coaches."

Javonte Keck led the Tritons with 20 points and seven rebounds while Ngambi added 19 and Jayden Stephens had 13 with eight boards.

For the Lakers, Ryan Hall scored 24, Dillon Carlson 18 and three others reached double figures.

"We knew coming in that Iowa Lakes was a team that could hurt you with a variety of scorers," Helle said. "They showed why they are ranked where they are and just how effective they can be."

Iowa Central looks to get back on track Saturday at Southeastern before returning home to play Ellsworth and Southwestern next week.
