Tritons topped by Kirkwood

The Iowa Central men couldn't overcome a tough shooting performance here Saturday, falling to No. 11 Kirkwood, 74-47.

Arthur Cox led the Eagles with 15 points while Jaleque Dunson added 13 and Blake Brinkmeyer 12.

For the Tritons, Kevin Taylor had a game-high 17 points as Javonte Keck scored 16 to go over the 1,000 career point mark.

"When you can't get open looks to go, it's tough to win at this level," Iowa Central head coach Chad Helle said. "Plain and simply put. We did a good enough job on the defensive end to be in this one; we just couldn't make shots."

Iowa Central was just 17-for-67 from the field, including 4 of 30 from the 3-point line. They trailed by 20 at the break.

Kirkwood held a plus-24 edge in rebounds and outscored the Tritons 34-22 on points in the paint. Iowa Central committed just seven turnovers in the game, but scored only seven points off 13 mistakes by the Eagles.

"We've kind of gotten ourselves stuck here where we try to shoot our way out of a slump," Helle said. "We do a lot of shooting work in practice, but when we hit the floor for a game, we can't get into a rhythm."

Josh Baker had five points with eight rebounds and three blocked shots, while Jordan Majeed scored six. Taylor had five rebounds and three steals for Iowa Central.

The Tritons return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Southwestern.
