Tritons win over Southwestern 57-52

The Triton Men's Basketball Team got off to a quick start on their home court on Sophomore Night Thursday.

Darius Henderson was first on the board for the Tritons with two, quickly answered by Miles Fant, starting the Tritons off to a 4-0 lead.

Southwestern's Brance Baker scored 3 for the Spartans to bring the score to 6-3.

Deuce Blake's 3-pointer gave the Tritons a 9-3 lead. The Tritons continued to pull ahead with 3-pointers by Kevin Taylor and Blake to take a 15-8 lead. The Spartans scored 5 on the Tritons' 4 to cut the lead to 19-13. Blake scored 3 more to bring lead to 22-13. The Spartans quickly returned to again cut the lead to 23-19 with just over one minute to play in the first half and scored again, cutting the Triton lead to 2, 23-21. The Tritons entered halftime with a 25-21 lead.

Entering the second half of play, The Spartans scored 2 to bring the score to 25-23, and quickly tied 26-26.

The Tritons fought a back and forth second half battle with the Spartans taking a 3-point lead and Iowa Central answering with 2. Henderson's 3 tied the game 48-48 with less than five minutes to play. Henderson added 2 to make the score 50-48 in favor of the Tritons. The Spartans answered with 2 points and the Tritons held the 52-50 lead with strong defense for the next two minutes. Kyler Matthias banked a 3-pointer to bring the Tritons lead to 55-50 with less than 30 seconds in the game.  Besh's two frees secured the game for the Tritons, 57-52.

The Tritons were lead by Darius Henderson with 17 points, Deuce Blake with 14 and Miles Fant with 12. They will finish the regular season on the road vs. No.6 Kirkwood on March 1.
