Tritons Pick Up Two Wins in New Years Classic

Worthington, Minn. – The Iowa Central Men's Basketball Team snapped a steak of 10 straight losses here to close out 2023 at the Minnesota West New Year's Classic, December 29-30.

The Tritons (3-10 overall) picked up victories over Minnesota North of Hibbing, 92-56 Friday, and Minnesota West, 83-43 on Saturday; their first in the W column since the season opener on November 2.

A strong first half pushed the Tritons to a 53-25 lead over the Cardinals of Minnesota North at the half.

Freshman Randy Latham had a breakthrough game for the Tritons, scoring 30 points. Mekhi Wilson added 11 points for the Tritons and Deuce Blake and Chase Low each added 10.

ID Colman and Miles Fant each scored eight points for the Tritons and Daviyon Gatson had five.

Fant led the Tritons with 15 points and six rebounds vs. Minnesota West, while Latham added 14 points and six rebounds. Riley Edwards scored 11 points off the bench and Wilson had nine points. Coleman had eight rebounds for Iowa Central and added four points.

The Tritons will kick-off 2024 at home on Saturday January 6 vs. Southwestern.
