Triton Men With an Impressive 88-84 Win Over #20 Kansas City Commmunity College

With six in double figures, the Triton Men (5-2) battled to their third consecutive victory at Hodges Fieldhouse on Tuesday (11/19) with an impressive 88-84 victory over #20 Kansas City Kansas Community College.

The Tritons struggled in the first half from three, shooting only 2-of-13, while KCK went 9-of-12 and finished the first half with an 11-0 run to lead 45-42 at the break. The Tritons came out in the second half and shot over 53% while holding KCK to 3-of-13 from three and outscored the Blue Devils, 46-39 to secure the victory.

"We're all brand new together. We just weren't finishing possessions in the first half." said Triton Head Coach, Ryan Kirsch, "They shot 59% from the field and 9-of-12 from three. Give credit to them, they came out really hot in the first half."

Leading the way for the Tritons were Aleix Sempere Serrano and CJ Mitchell with 14 points each off the bench. Lane Campbell and Jordan Cain both added 13 with Jalen Wynter and Terrius Walker each scoring 12 points. "Tonight we had six in double figures. Aleix had a huge impact on the game, as did CJ with no turnovers handling the ball for us." said Kirsch. "We handled the press so much better than we have. It was a complete team effort again tonight."

"We want to win the rebounding and turnover battle every game. Only turning it over 10 times to their 19 is really key." Coach Kirsch said of the Tritons' defensive effort. "Against nationally ranked teams, you can't turn the ball over. We really cranked up the defense in the second half. That was huge."

Terrius Walker pulled down six rebounds for the Tritons and Jordan Cain finished with four steals.

Up next for the Tritons is a matchup with Black Hawk College on Saturday (11/23) as part of the Great Western Dining Shootout at Hodges Fieldhouse. Tip is set for 4:00 PM.
