Four Tritons in Double Figures Lead Tritons to Victory Over Northeast
An efficient offensive night with four Tritons scoring in double figures led to a 85-70 conference victory over Northeast Community College on Wednesday (1/15) night in Norfolk, NE.
Both teams shot over 50% from the field in the first half with the Tritons taking a 45-35 lead into the break. The Tritons tightened up defensively in the second half and pulled away to a 19 point lead before going on to the 85-70 win.
Triton Head Coach, Ryan Kirsch, was proud of the Tritons' effort. "I was happy with our play offensively. We attacked, got to the rim, and were extremely efficient." said Kirsch. "Our defensive effort in the first half wasn't where we need it. We weren't physical enough – we have to continue to improve in those areas."
The Tritons were led by Jordan Cain and Jalen Wynter who both scored 19 points. Irakli Akhalaia scored 11 points with Daviyon Gaston adding 10 points and four rebounds.
"Jalen does some amazing things with the basketball" added Kirsch on the play of Wynter who shot 6-9 from the arc and continues to lead the ICCAC in 3PT made (68) and sits third in 3PT% (46.3%).
The Tritons won the rebounding (36-25) and turnover (16-18) battles in the victory with Vice Grbic pulling down nine rebounds to lead the Tritons. Cooper Randall added eight rebounds and two steals.
"Winning on the road is difficult" said Kirsch on the importance of getting the win. "We'll take conference wins on the road anytime you can get them."
The Tritons host Southwestern on Saturday, January 18th at Hodges Fieldhouse. Tip is set for 3:00 PM.
