Tritons Win Third Consecutive With Victory Over Southwestern

A third consecutive win for the Triton Men as they picked up a 84-68 conference win over Southwestern in Hodges Fieldhouse on Saturday (1/18) afternoon.

Three consecutive defensive stops to open the game got the Tritons off to a fast start before closing the half with an 11-0 run to lead 39-24. The Tritons would lead by as many as 25 in the second half and never trail in the victory.

"I was really happy with our first half effort, especially on the defensive end of the floor." said Triton Head Coach, Ryan Kirsch, on the victory. "We started and finished the first half with three consecutive stops and held them to 37.5% shooting. We shot 61.3% in the second half. We were really good offensively."

The Tritons were led by Jalen Wynter, who continues to be one of the ICCAC's top shooters. Wynter scored 18 points on 7-12 shooting. CJ Mitchell scored five points and added five rebounds, 3 assists, and only had one turnover handling the ball for the Tritons. Cooper Randall added 13 points.

"Cooper really shot the ball well. He has found a really nice role at the four spot. He's starting to come into his own for us." added Kirsch. "CJ was efficient, Vice battled all day for us, and it's good to have Lane (Campbell) back in our lineup." Campbell was in just his second game back following an injury and added 11 points and 5 rebounds.

The Tritons continue to look at the big picture in the tight ICCAC conference race. "Really proud of our guys effort today. We have to continue to improve defensively." said Kirsch. "We have to get it tied down before March. Stay with the process."

The Tritons welcome Iowa Lakes to Hodges Fieldhouse on Wednesday, January 22nd for a conference matchup. Tip is set for 7:30 PM.
