Six Tritons Earn ICCAC Athlete of the Week Honors
Jordan Cain – Iowa Central – Freshman – Guard
Jordan Cain helped lead the Iowa Central Tritons in two wins this past week. Against Central Neb. Cain had a huge game with 30 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals to beat the Raiders on the road 80-76. Next, the Tritons got the win over NIACC in Mason City, winning 96-78. Cain had 18 points, three rebounds and two assists. Cain is only four steals away from breaking the single-season record at Iowa Central. The Tritons at 8-8 in conference play are right in the middle of a log jam for the No. 3 seed. Five teams are within one game of each other.
Cody Huinker– Iowa Central – Sophomore
At the Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis this past week, Iowa Central's Cody Huinker finished 141st out of a field of 550 bowlers. In five games his total pin count was 967 with an average of 193.4 per game. His game-by-game breakdown was: 174, 184, 190, 232 and 187. Early on, Huinker faced some challenges, particularly missing some spares in his first game, but was able to remain patient and fought back. His composure is why Huinker was leader for the Iowa Central Men's Bowling team and gave him the best ICCAC finish of the week.
Emma Phelps – Iowa Central – Freshman
In Indianapolis, freshman Emma Phelps was the consistency for Iowa Central as she placed 122nd out of 450 bowlers in the Hoosier Classic. She knocked down 907 pins total with an average of 181.4 pins each game. Her game-by-game breakdown was: 200, 170, 192, 141, 204. Phelps stayed consistent throughout the event at one of the biggest college tournaments throughout the year. She was the highest finishing women's bowler in the ICCAC this past week.
Reagan Enright – Iowa Central – Sophomore – Catcher
In just five at-bats last week, Iowa Central's Reagan Enright's production was impossible to ignore. The sophomore backstop went 4 for 5 (.800) with three homer and 10 RBI. She scored three runs, powered by herself of course. She only had five at-bats due to the fact she also drew five walks. Defensively, she didn't allow any stolen bases while behind the plate. Iowa Central won three games against North Idaho, Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa and Allen County (Kan.).
Coen Grimm – Iowa Central – Freshman – 197 lbs
Freshman Coen Grimm finished this past week as a District Champion after topping his competition in the 197 pound bracket. Grimm powered NIACC's Macray Klohs in a 4-1 decision before winning by sudden victory over the NJCAA No. 1 Andrew Marquez of Indian Hills. Grimm was one of four Tritons to win weight classes last week joining Drew Cooper at 133, Kaden King at 165 and Lawrence Rosario at 174. The Tritons were the runner up at the Districts, just 4.5 points behind Indian Hills.
Delise Villa – Iowa Central – Freshman – 145 lbs
Delise Villa became a Region 11 Champion this past weekend as she won the 12-woman bracket at 145 pounds. Villa won three matches including two over ranked opponents to win the title. She beat teammate Emily Angelo in the quarterfinals 2-0. Then she topped No. 8 Peityn Covolo of Iowa Western via pin (2:06). Finally, against another ranked Reiver, Villa got the 13-1 Tech Fall victory in the championship bout over Sara Daley. Iowa Central won the first-ever Region 11 Championship meet.
