Six Tritons earn ICCAC Athlete of the Week Honors
Jordan Cain – Freshman – Guard
Jordan Cain of Iowa Central was one of the standout performers at the Region 11 Tournament, playing a crucial role in leading the Tritons past a historic DMACC team, before narrowly falling short in the regional championship game. In an 83-76 victory over No. 3 DMACC, Cain posted an impressive 36 points, 13 rebounds, four steals, and three assists. He followed that up with another outstanding performance in the Championship game, contributing 26 points, four rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Despite his efforts, the Tritons were edged out by No. 4 ranked and No. 2 seeded Kirkwood, losing 63-61 in a game that came down to the final possession. In three tournament games Cain averaged 26 points.
Taha Ouchene, Saad Rifi Loutfi, Soufyane Laaziz, Said Rifi Loutfi – 4x800 Relay
Iowa Central secured a National Title at the Indoor Track & Field Championships, with the 4x800 relay team setting a new school record of 7:33.05. This remarkable time also ranks as the third fastest in NJCAA history. What makes their achievement even more impressive is that all four team members are currently observing fasting for Ramadan. The athletes who made up the 4x800 relay team were Taha Ouchene, Saad Rifi Loutfi, Soufyane Laaziz, and Said Rifi Loutfi. The Rifi Loutfi brothers also raced in the Distance Medley Relay which took home All-American honors after a runner up finish.
Delise Villa – Freshman – 145 lbs
Iowa Central's Delise Villa, a freshman from California, claimed the National Championship this past week at the NJCAA National Invite in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Villa went on an impressive run, winning five-consecutive matches to secure the title in the 145 lbs weight class. It wasn't until the Championship match that Villa faced her toughest challenge, going head-to-head with Isabella Morgan from Snow College. Villa triumphed with a 7-4 decision to capture the national title, while the Tritons earned a third-place finish as a team. Villa was named Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament.
