Another title for Iowa Central's Wiegand

CEDAR RAPIDS - Behind games of 290 and 275, Raymond Wiegand recorded a 737 series and with it the Kohawk Invitational title this past weekend for the Iowa Central men's bowling team.

Wiegand placed ahead of St. Ambrose's Brandon Dodge by 25 pins. The Marshalltown native started off his three-game series with a 172 and improved from there to 275 before finishing with a 290.

"There were some very good bowlers at this meet," Iowa Central head coach Gregg Haden said. "Raymond is one of the most determined individuals I have seen in a long time. His knowledge of everything bowling and willingness to help others makes him a force to be reckoned with as the postseason approaches."

As a team, the Triton men were fifth overall with a 5,427. St. Ambrose, Wisconsin-Whitewater, Hasting and Mount Mercy placed just ahead of Iowa Central.

Jacob Kraft was 25th for Iowa Central with a 612 series while Tyler Madsen placed 38th overall.

Leah Sanck paced the Triton women, finishing fourth overall. The former Fort Dodge Senior High state champion rolled games of 184, 268 and 189 for a 641 series. Iowa Central placed fifth with a 4,999 series as Mount Mercy won it followed by Grand View, St. Ambrose and Viterbo.

Korrissa Johnson was 27th with a 561 while Madison Ross finished 32nd and Ashly Wiegand was 34th.

"Both teams are really coming together and it shows in their performances," Haden said.

Iowa Central returns to action March 20-21 at the Leatherneck Classic in Davenport.
