Iowa Central secures another silver

LANSING, Mich. - The Iowa Central men's bowling team left nationals with another trophy, earning a second consecutive runner-up finish.

The Tritons finished just 27 pins behind Hawkeye, with Iowa Western completing an all-ICCAC Top-3 in the team race. Iowa Central had a total of 12,753 during the multi-day tournament.

Raymond Wiegand earned fifth in the all-events race with a score of 2,359 as Jackson's Collin Baldwin was first.

"The guys really did a great job," Iowa Central head coach Gregg Haden said. "When you are Iowa Central, you compete with a giant target on your back. Teams know they are going to be in contention when they beat us because we've built such a strong program year after year.

"During Baker's, the guys were able to go ahead, but Hawkeye just had a better final round. You just have to give them credit for that."

Jordan Pelant, who claimed a doubles title during the event with Nathan Hansen, finished ninth overall with a 2,318.

Hansen was 46th overall, Dale Weaver placed 55th, Justin Graves was 57th and Kamrin Chizek 61st.

Wiegand, Pelant and Hansen earned All-American honors for their efforts.

The Tritons will compete beginning next Friday in Dallas at the USBC Collegiate Sectionals.

"I'd really like to thank (Iowa Central athletic director) Kevin Twait and (Iowa Central vice president) Tom Beneke for all of their support," Haden said. "And all of the support from the entire facility and staff. You can't have a successful athletic program without that kind of incredible support from everybody.

"It truly is amazing."
