Tritons compete on the lanes

MILWAUKEE - The Iowa Central bowling team took part in the 50th annual Midwest Collegiate Championships this past weekend.

On the men's side, the Tritons placed 22nd overall with a team score of 8,645. They were the second-highest finishing junior college team at the meet. 

St. Ambrose had the top qualifying score for match play but was knocked out in the semifinals by Webber. The Savannah College of Arts and Design went on to win match play.

Jacob Kraft was 36th overall with a 1,235 total that included a high-game of 235. Dale Weaver was 64th with a 1,171 series and Jordan Pelant finished 96th with a 1,113. 

Iowa Central was 21st in the women's team standings with 7,754. They were the top finishing junior college, placing sixth spots ahead of Iowa Western. 

Savannah also won the women's match play event, besting Webber. Mount Mercy had the top qualifying score. 

Samantha Wangen paced the Tritons, finishing 36th with a 1,065. She had a high game score of 200. Olivia Nolte was 114th with a 713 and Cassie Lee finished 123rd with a 682. 

"Every day we are getting better," Iowa Central head coach Gregg Haden said. "We have nine more tournaments before postseason and we are heading in the right direction."

The Tritons compete in Waterloo this coming weekend at the Cedar Valley Invitational.
