The Iowa Central golf program was in action at two different invitationals this past weekend.

At Okoboji's Brooks Golf Course, the Triton men placed third with a team score of 307. Host Iowa Lakes won (299) with North Iowa Area second, just a stroke ahead of Iowa Central.

Joseph Forsting finished in third overall with a round of 2-over-par, with teammate Cody Dirks a shot back for fourth. Kyle Wille was 10th, Tyler Kobb 13th and Jaxon Myers gave the Tritons five in the Top-20 by placing 19th.

Forsting had five birdies on his round. 

"It was really nice for us to get under the fire and play some competition," ICCC head coach Kris Graewin said. "We showed that we are very capable of being a very good team this year and just need to clean up a few things. Iowa Lakes and NIACC are two quality teams this year and I thought we stacked up well with them.

"Joe played really well in his debut and made a lot of birdies. I was extremely pleased with how Tyler played."

Iowa Central headed to Wisconsin to give Forsting, Dirks and Wille the chance to play in their home state at the Madison College Invitational. 

"Playing in Madison was something that I wanted to do because we have a few Wisconsin athletes on the team and will have more in the future," Graewin said. "I think it's important for us to give back to our fans and play near them. We had a ton of support and I couldn't be happer with the guys we have this year.

"We didn't play as well as I thought we could, but considering we drove over six hours Friday night after the Iowa Lakes Invitational, I thought the guys responded well."

Forsting finished sixth with a 77, as Dirks placed seventh at 78. Kopp and Wille both shot 80s to tie for 10th overall. 

"We faced a really strong DuPage team and our guys saw that a stroke here and there is the difference between winning and finishing second," Graewin said. "I know the guys are all excited to get back on the course and want that taste of victroy. I'm very excited for this year."

The Iowa Central women also opened their season in Wisconsin as Kelly Boleyn, Taylor Thede and Mackenzie Trinkle hit the course for the first time as Tritons.

"I thought it was a great first tournament," Graewin said. "We were able to get some experience on a golf course that we hadn't seen before and I thought we played fairly well.

"For Kelly to get her first tournament under her belt was huge. She's been a fantastic addition to our program. Taylor is our top returner and I really like how she's come in this year, and Mackenzie has come in with a ton of confidence and is playing well."

Boleyn, a Humboldt native, finished with a 90, as did Thede. Trinkle shot 100.

Iowa Central heads to Mason City for the NIACC Invitationa on Thursday.
