Tritons, Forsting score Top-5s at Clarke Invitational

Joe Forsting

The Iowa Central men's golf team finished fourth at the Clarke University Fall Classic held at the Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena, Illinois.

St. Ambrose was crowned the overall champion with Dubuque second and North Iowa Area third.

Joseph Forsting placed third overall to lead the Tritons, firing a two-round total of 152. The winner was Zach Martin of NIACC, as he finished with a 146, with St. Ambrose's Eric Spurgetis placing second with a 150.

Forsting had an opening round 75 and followed that up with a 77.

"Overall, it was a nice tournament for Joe," ICCC head coach Kris Graewin said. "I thought he played extremely well both days and was able to grind through some tough conditions in the second round. I'm very happy for him because he's put in a ton of work over the last 14 months and it's paying off."

Tyler Kopp tied for 19th overall with a 161 (79-82) and Kyle Wille was tied for 25th with a 163 (79-84). Both Cody Dirks and Jaxon Myers placed 33rd with 166s.

"I think I didn't hold up my end of the bargain for the guys in the second round, which produced our worst round of the year," Graewin said. "I didn't do a good enough job making sure our guys were prepared and ready to play in the conditions we experienced. The guys played hard and gave it their all but coach let them down this week. I'll make sure I'm better going forward and we can expect better results after falling from second to fourth."

The Tritons return to action on Wednesday when they head to the Indianola Country Club for the Simpson Invitational. They are also scheduled to play Thursday at the Fall RedTail Shootout and Saturday at the Quad Cup.
