ALBERT LEA, Minn. - Kelly Boleyn made her fall debut a memorable one here Sunday.
Boleyn, a Humboldt graduate, captured the Waldorf Invitational title with a round of 75. The Iowa Central golfer finished two shots ahead of Ashley Michel from Des Moines Area for the win.
In the spring, Boleyn qualified for the national meet for the Tritons. She has spent the early part of the fall season beginning classes in the dental hygiene program.
Korie Norris shot 100 to place 32nd and Ella Dinsdale was 33rd with a 108 for Iowa Central. Waldorf won the women's team title with a 337, five shots ahead of North Iowa Area.
On the men's side, Iowa Central placed second with a 283, just 11 shots behind Bellevue at the Wedgewood Cove Golf Club.
Austin Erickson was fourth overall with a 3-under round of 69 while Michel Van Zijl placed sixth with a 2-under 70. Floris-Jan Oosterhof of Bellevue was the winner with a 66.
Simon Mitchell shot a 1-under 71 to place eighth, Justin Schipper and Tomas Riberio each had even-par rounds of 72 to tie for 13th, and Liam Ross was 18th with a 73.
"Michel has been doing everything I ask of him and has really settled in as an asset for us. He works very hard on his game and I love his demeanor on the course. He never gets too high or too low with his emotions. Simon's been battling some swing stuff for a while but has always been able to put up a score and (Sunday) things clicked. It'll be fun to see how he can carry this going forward."
At the Quad Cup last Friday, Iowa Central placed second, scoring a 3-1 win over Iowa Lakes before falling to Des Moines Area, 3-1.
Next action for the Tritons is Friday when they head to the Fox Ridge Golf Course in Dike for the Hawkeye Fall Classic.
