SPENCER - Justin Schipper tied for second and Liam Ross finished fourth here Tuesday to help the Iowa Central men's golf team close out the fall strong.

Behind the pair of Top-5 finishes, the Tritons were second overall to Iowa Western, firing a two-day, three-round total of 3-over par. The Reivers won the meet with a team score of 20-under.

"Fantastic way for us to finish the fall season," Iowa Central head coach Kris Graewin said. "We were able to compete very well with a Top-5 D1 program in Iowa Western and gave them a run for low round of the day in round three.

"We've had a great fall, finishing no lower than runner-up in any event, which was our goal to begin the year, and we accomplished it."

Iowa Central posted the only other team round under-par on Tuesday, firing a 6-under. Iowa Western shot even in the first, 8-under in the second and 12-under in the third.

Schipper carded his second 68 of the event, finishing at 210 overall and 6-under. Ross had a 66 on the final day, cutting seven strokes off his second round score from Monday and carding a 5-under tourney.

"Justin was a top player in the country for us all fall and this tournament showed it as well," Graewin said. "He's been as consistent a player I've ever coached. He never gets too rattled with anything and always finds a way to get a good score into the clubhouse. It was great to see him play so well this week in front of his family.

"Liam was able to play to his potential. He's been hitting the ball well all year and his mental game and short game were where we need them to be going forward. He's an extremely talented player and I can't wait to see how he grows over this offseason."

Tomas Ribeiro finished 14th with a 222 that included a 72 on Tuesday, Austin Erickson was 18th and Simon Mitchell 64th. Erickson shot a 224 and Mitchell a 251.

Iowa Central claimed a handful of invitational titles during the fall, following up a spring season that saw them place fourth at nationals.

"We've had the best fall season I've been a part of in my coaching career and that's a testament to the athletes," Graewin said. "Now, we need to have the best offseason as well. Our work doesn't stop now; the team needs to continue to keep working hard in the classroom and now hit the weight room hard.

"Before we know it, we will be heading on our spring break trip in March and the spring season will be here."

Schipper had five birdies on the round and finished with 13 for the week. Ross had eight birdies on Tuesday and 14 for the three rounds.

Ella Dinsdale and Korie Norris finished off their tournaments, as Dinsdale placed 35th (105-111) and Norris was 37th (127-121).
