Tritons compete at Red Raider Cup

ORANGE CITY - The Iowa Central men's golf team secured a Top-6 finish here Saturday at the Red Raider Cup hosted by Northwestern College.

Morningside fired a 12-under to claim first place followed by Northwestern and Iowa Western in a tie for second. Northwestern B was fourth, Midland fifth and the Tritons tied with Dakota Wesleyan for sixth with 292s.

Liam Ross tied for third with two others after shooting a 3-under round of 68. Iowa Western's Thomas Craig was medalist with a 65.

Austin Erickson and Tomas Ribeiro tied for 30th with 74s, Matthew Kruger tied for 50th with a 76 and Justin Schipper tied for 62nd with a 78.

"Great tournament field for us to play in," Iowa Central head coach Kris Graewin said. "We were able to put together four scores and compete. The weather didn't do any favors to anyone and we're looking forward to getting ready for regionals in a couple weeks. Very happy with how Liam played. Being from South Africa and playing in 30-degree weather isn't what he's used to so a three-under-par round 68 was very good. Liam has a ton of potential, and when he gets out of his own way mentally, he can do a lot of special things. I'm looking forward to how he competes the rest of the way."
