The Iowa Central rugby team had no problems with Wisconsin, scoring 12 total tries from 11 different players in earning a 79-5 victory at Crimmins Field.

Coming off another solid season, the Tritons took care of the defending Big Ten Conference champions.

Newcomers handle six of the 11 try scorers, with Pierre Wansbury standing out among the returning players for Iowa Central head coach Brent Nelson.

"We were very happy with the blend of freshmen and sophomores coming together for one common goal," Nelson said. "I felt like the forwards and backs really had a nice balance as well, which was in part to the masterful game of Pierre."

Despite a steady rain coming down throughout, Wansbury's passes were "very spot-on," Nelson said.

"Our co-men fo the match were sophomores Rhys Smith and Alec Johnson," Nelson said. "Alec was tremendous in all phases of the game. I felt like he tackled well and was a pest at the breakdown, committed no turnovers and even scored a try.

"Rhys dominated the game offensively with precision passing and kicking. He gutted their defense with some very tactical kicks over their line that had Wisconsin on the back foot all day."

Aaron Krah and Viance Vano each took advantage of those kicks by Smith. Krah had two tries with Smith, Jayden Williams, Johnson, Michael Karns, Wansbury, Tuia Tupuola, Vano, Malachi Vantaggiato, Hugo Minaar and Cyele Banks with one each.

Smith was 6-for-9 on conversions and Minaar was 2-for-3. Smith was also 1-for-2 on penalty kicks.

The Tritons returns to action Saturday, September 7 when they host Iowa State at 1 p.m. The Cyclones won the Heart of America Conference last year.
