Tritons Step In, Defeat Northern Iowa

Triton Rugby

CEDAR FALLS ä The Iowa Central rugby team is willing to step in and take on anybody, anytime and at any field.

Recently, on a days notice, they did just that, replacing Western Illinois for a match with Northern Iowa here.

The Tritons posted a 43-22 victory as Jayden Williams recorded nine tackles and was 3-for-6 on conversions with a try.

"We took 30 guys to UNI and the Hostile Hilltop," ICCC head coach Brent Nelson. "The guys were really pumped when I told them I had some good news and bad news (before the match). I said we would be busy after thinking they had the day off, but when I said it was to play UNI, they let out a collective cheer.

"That is just how this group is. They want to play as much as possible."

Elijah Hayes, Jermiah Flowers, Gus Sokol, Dakota Southworth, Toney Robinson and Reggie Parks each had tries, with Hayden Detiege adding a conversion.

Iowa Central takes on Davenport on Saturday.
