Tritons welcome in Davenport for showdown

The Iowa Central rugby team welcomes in Davenport for a highly-anticipated contest.

Match time is set for 1 p.m. at Crimmins Field.

The Tritons are coming off a pair of wins on back-to-back nights on the road at Nebraska and Iowa by lopsided scores. This one, though, with Davenport is one that has been "circled on the calendar," says Iowa Central head coach Brent Nelson.

"We got through Nebraska and Iowa, and now we are ready to take on a big-time opponent," Nelson said. "We want to see where we are at against a high-level program like Davenport. They are a four-year, varsity program with scholarships who are consistently ranked in the Top-12 of D1A every year."

Nelson and the Tritons have yet to score a win over Davenport on the pitch. In 2019, Davenport won, 52-33.

"They have good players, good coaches and high school All-Americans," Nelson said. "And they are a professionally run program."

Iowa Central has won three in a row since a tough loss to Army back in September. They started the season with wins over Iowa State and Marian, while also besting Minnesota.
