Tritons handle Wisconsin on the pitch

MADISON, Wis. - The Iowa Central rugby team got back to their winning ways here Saturday, besting Wisconsin, 90-10.

Nine different players scored a try for the Tritons, led by four from Pride Gadzikwa

Oratile Molatlhegi was 4-for-4 on conversion kicks and Chris Stanback had six conversion kicks.

"You never really like to have a score like that," Iowa Central head coach Brent Nelson said. "Wisconsin is down because of several reasons, but their coach is happy about the young kids they have on the roster. We kept some kids back, but those that played, us coaches were really happy with everything they did.

"We worked on defensive structure and being more disciplined, which we did. We made fewer mistakes and we are just really happy with how we played."

The Tritons have a regular season match set for this Saturday at national power Lindenwood before closing out the year in a bowl game this December in Houston.

"It's a big one and a tough test with Lindenwood," Nelson said. "But we are excited for the challenge."

The match is expected to be live streamed.

In the B-side contest, Iowa Central won, 47-0. James Cairns scored three tries and was 6-for-7 on conversion kicks.

"James is an electric player who has been battling back from an injury," Nelson said. "Our training staff has done a wonderful job getting him better and it was just great to see him flex his speed on the field."
