Tritons conclude 15s season with Lindenwood

The Iowa Central rugby team put a cap on their 15s season here this past Saturday against Lindenwood at Crimmins Field.

The Tritons fell in the A-side contest, 45-27.

Tavius Sykora-Matthess had three tries with both Andrew Thexton and Ledonn Mathis each recording one.

"I was very pleased with the effort of the guys," Iowa Central head coach Brent Nelson said. "When you go up against a top program in the country like Lindenwood, you have to temper your expectations. You don't go in thinking you are going to lose, but you have to find moral victories.

"I thought we put up a good fight. Our forwards played a phenomenal game collectively. We had some first year players who were out of position a few times and I think the stage was pretty big for them."

Iowa Central will continue action in 7s tournaments in hopes of qualifying for nationals in May.

"We have some young men moving on who have been key players for us," Nelson said. "They will be missed tremendously, but we wish them all the best in their futures.

"We also have some very talented players set to return and we are bringing in some key players as well who will be part of our future."
