Tritons battle to a draw on the road

BURLINGTON - The Iowa Central men's soccer team and Southeastern battled for over 100 minutes of action here Wednesday afternoon.

In the end, both left with a draw, as the match ended scoreless, 0-0.

"Southeastern was very aggressive, receiving several yellow cards and a red," Iowa Central head coach Pablo Rodriguez said. "But we stayed composed and continued to attack. They didn't really threaten much in terms of advancing the ball, but we were ready whenever they did."

Iowa Central had a chance in the first overtime session, but a made penalty kick was called back due to a Triton player being in the box early. The second attempt was denied.

"We were the stronger side," Rodriguez said. "There have been times in the past where we haven't played well and won, but we definitely played very well (Wednesday) against a tough opponent. We just couldn't pull out the win."

The Tritons (5-1-1 overall) have not lost since a 4-2 setback in their second match of the season to Hawkeye. Iowa Central came into this contest having reeled off four consecutive wins over Scott, John Wood, Northeast and North Iowa Area by a combined score of 23-5.

"We've been really working hard and it's showing in the performances of the boys," Rodriguez said. "(Southeastern) was No. 1 last year and they are a very good program, so this was another great test for us."

Up next for the Tritons will be the start of conference season with a home date at Rogers Sports Complex on Tuesday vs. fourth-ranked Iowa Lakes.
