Tritons sweep in the pool

DUBUQUE - The Iowa Central men's and women's swim programs swept both Loras and the Illinois Institute of Tech this past weekend.

In the men's duals, the Tritons downed Loras, 173-28, and IIT, 156-81. The Iowa Central women topped Loras, 120-87, and IIT, 103-86. 

Emile Lutzeler won the 50 free (21.88) and 100 free (48.19); Guillermo Cruz swept the 200 free (1:40.59) and 100 breaststroke (58.09); and Tjeerd Van Stein was the 400 I.M. (4:20.70) and 100 back (54.31) winner. 

Dalton Hammel had a strong homecoming, as the Dubuque Hempstead graduate won the 100 butterfly. 

The Triton men also captured the 400 medley relay and 400 free relay titles. Mariano Sosa, Lutzeler, Hammel and Ilyas Serbest won the medley in 3:38.98, with Vincent Fletcher, Cruz, Gerard Ijspeert and Marcelo Busch Ataide winning the free in 3:13.62.

On the women's side, Eve Berg, Magali Mouton, Shannon Murphy and Zoe Beals were the 400 medley relay winners in 4:20.73, with the quartet of Maria Diaz, Mary Marshall, Emilie Andrin and Paula Ronda taking the 400 free relay in 3:52.87. 

Beals won the 50 free in 26.74 with Marshall and Murphy right behind her. Andrin won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.97) with Mouton and Murphy placing second and third. 

The Tritons return to the pool Friday when they swim against Morningside and UK-Kearney in Sioux City before taking part Saturday in the Mustang Invitational, also in Sioux City.
