Training trip results in strong swims for Tritons

GREAT BEND, Kan. - The Iowa Central swim program took in a three-day training trip in Arkansas before swimming here on the weekend.

The Triton men won all three of their duals while the women posted a 2-1 mark winning 11 events combined against host Barton, Southwestern Oregon and South Georgia State.

"We came off a training trip that included two hikes of 3.5 and 4.5 miles," Iowa Central head coach Joe Plane said. "The swimmers performed very well despite the fatigue. We placed 1-2-3 in a few events and showed our depth, which is exciting as we are getting closer to nationals."

Johnathon Turner won two individual events and was part of two winning relays with Kyle McKenzie, Javier Santiago, Tjeerd Van Stein, Haley Snawerdt, Lexi Mast and Magali Mouton also winning events.

Turner turned in top times in the 50 freestyle (22.46) and 50 butterfly (24.49). Turner, Van Stein, Santiago and Dylan Jones won the medley relay in 1:39.42 with Turner, Van Stein, Gerald Ijspeert and Brady Ferguson capturing the free relay in 1:30.19.

For the Triton women, Mast, Mouton, Shannon Murphy and Lily Wright won the medley relay in 1:59.08.
